What is Manuka Oil and why is it so special?

Manuka Oil is an essential oil won from the Manuka tree (leptospermum scoparium) that grows in New Zealand. The indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori, have known for a long time of the health benefits of the Manuka tree. Through them the European settlers learnt about the mysterious Manuka tree. Captain Cook himself named the Manuka tree “Tea Tree” because the native Maori made a tea out of the leaves that resembled green tea in taste and bitterness.

In general, regular tea tree oil can be found more frequently in today’s market. It is pressed out of the leaves of the tea tree bush that grows in Australia. However, some people are allergic to regular tea tree oil.

Manuka Oil from New Zealand is a certain type of tea tree oil that causes no allergies. People who are allergic to regular tea tree oil from Australia, or who have found that a skin problem got worse after applying regular tea tree oil, have switched to Manuka Oil, and found that it is very soothing. Manuka Oil does NOT further irritate an already irritated skin condition.

Essential Manuka Oil (tea tree oil) from New Zealand has powerful antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal and antiviral properties. It also acts anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anti-parasitic. This natural oil in soothing almond oil base is applied to skin problems such as eczema.

Manuka Oil penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin. For this reason Manuka Oil can reach areas that other skin care products cannot reach. That makes Manuka Oil so valuable. Manuka Oil could help you significantly clearing the symptoms of eczema.

Manuka Oil has the ability to strengthen the skin, making it more resistant to environmental influences. This extraordinary oil helps relaxing the nerves of the skin and thereby supports the process of skin regeneration and new formation of cells. A relaxed skin does not overreact to outer influences that fast.

In order for Manuka Oil to be even more effective it is highly recommended to clean the affected area with antibacterial Manuka Propolis Soap or Manuka Royal Jelly Soap before you apply the oil. This strong combination can be an alternative, very effective solution for your skin care problems, no matter on what part of your body! Generally, Royal Jelly Soap is used for minor skin problems and can be described as skin care soap, whereas Propolis Soap is used for skin problems of all different kinds.

A study conducted by the Cawthron Institute proofed that Manuka Oil can help to cure skin infections and irritations. The result of the study is impressive: Manuka Oil from New Zealand is 30 times more effective than regular tea tree oil from Australia.

From all the customer feedback that we have received over the past ten years it keeps surprising us how fast Manuka Oil has sometimes helped our customers with their individual skin problems.

What is Eczema?

Eczema the general term used for various types of inflamed skin conditions that are caused by abnormal reactions of the immune system. However, the reasons for these abnormal reactions are not known yet. Eczema is an itchy rash that flares up periodically. The skin is covered by red, dry patches. Usually the skin itches before the rash actually appears. By scratching the skin is irritated and the rash becomes visible eventually.

Eczema can be found on virtually any part of the body. The areas more frequently affected by eczema are the face, neck and inside of elbows and knees. If the skin is scratched too much it becomes thicker and almost feels like leather, a process called lichenification.

It can be observed that the eczema flare ups often relate to external factors. Eczema mainly occurs during childhood. Mostly, the skin condition disappears in about 50 percent of the children when they get older. However, also adults can be affected by eczema. Currently, there are more than 15 million Americans suffering from a form of eczema. Between 10 and 20 percent of the children in the US currently suffer from eczema. Eczema is not contagious. It can be observed that people with a family history of eczema or allergies, like asthma, are more frequently affected. Also, many eczema patients also suffer from other allergies. Unfortunately there is no cure for eczema.

However, there are products available that can clear the symptoms and relieve the itching and inflammation of the skin. Also patients can observe over time what external factors trigger their individual eczema skin problem and act accordingly. By avoiding certain triggers and using the right eczema product, eczema can be significantly relieved.

What are possible triggers of Eczema?

All of the possible triggers mentioned here can also aggravate an existing eczema flare up. Triggers for eczema differ individually. Some patients relate that rough materials on their skin cause flare ups, others mention that they are more affected in the summertime when they get too hot and sweat a lot. Certain soaps and detergents also seem to have an effect on people that suffer from eczema, as well as dust mites. Eczema patients also seem to be irritated by some fresh fruits. A virus infection can also be a potential eczema trigger. Of course, stress does not help either, as with so many other health problems.

How can Eczema flare ups be prevented?

In general, patients with eczema should observe what individually triggers their eczema and then try to avoid also any of the above mentioned possible eczema triggers or situations that might cause a new flare up. In addition it is recommended to moisturize the skin frequently with the appropriate soap and wear breathable clothing, such as clothes made with cotton.

How can Eczema be treated?

To improve an eczema skin condition it is crucial to avoid scratching. The dry skin should be properly moisturized, especially after showers and baths, with the right body lotion to prevent the skin from drying out. When moisturizing the skin right after a bath, the moisture of the water will be kept in the skin.

Another way to relive the itching is applying cold compresses to the irritated skin area.

Some eczema patients take antihistamines before they go to bed in order to make sure they fall asleep without scratching their skin and worsening the eczema unconsciously. Also, wearing cotton gloves at night and keeping fingernails short in general can help to not irritate the skin even more. A phototherapy that involves lights can also be effective for eczema.

In general there are various ointments available that could also relieve the itching and soothe the skin. Prescription medications however mostly cause unwanted side effects, like skin thinning, and cannot be used for a longer time period. Therefore it is often recommended to find an effective natural product that does not further irritate the skin and can be applied all life long when eczema flare-ups occur.

Manuka Oil is a natural product that has been used by thousands of our customers over the past 10 years to help relieve the symptoms of eczema. Manuka Oil has no known side effects and can be used as often as you need it. Another advantage of Manuka Oil is the fact that it not only acts anti-inflammatory but also antibacterial. This is important since the inflamed skin can often get infected with bacteria and cause a more serious infection. By using Manuka Oil you can avoid unnecessary bacterial skin infections and avoid your doctor prescribing you an expensive antibiotic that only causes unwanted side effects.
